Moderate To Major Flood Warning For The Nepean, Hawkesbury And Colo Rivers

MAJOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT NORTH RICHMOND WITH RIVER LEVELS POSSIBLY EXCEEDING MARCH 2021, MARCH 2022 AND APRIL 2022 FLOODS SUNDAY NIGHT
MAJOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT MENANGLE WHERE RIVER LEVELS PEAKED SLIGHTLY LOWER THAN THE APRIL 2022 FLOOD
Heavy rainfall over the Nepean Valley since Saturday morning coupled with high dam levels have resulted in major flooding in the Nepean River at Menangle where river levels have exceeded the flood height reached in the March 2022 flood event (15.92 metres) and peaked slightly below the April 2022 flood height (16.83 metres).
Further downstream, spills from Warragamba Dam combined with inflows from the Upper Nepean River have caused major flooding at North Richmond. Further river level rises are expected during the remainder of Sunday into Monday and are expected to cause major flooding at Windsor. Flood levels are likely to exceed the flood levels reached in the past three major flood events since March 2021.
A Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall is current for the Metropolitan, Illawarra and parts of Hunter and Central Tablelands Forecast Districts.
Upper Nepean River:
Major flooding is occurring along the Upper Nepean at Menangle. Moderate flooding is occurring at Camden and Wallacia. Major flooding is expected at Wallacia.
The Nepean River at Menangle Bridge peaked at 16.61 metres around 07:50 am Sunday 03 July and is currently at 15.84 metres and falling, with major flooding.
The Nepean River at Camden Weir is currently at 12.57 metres and near its peak with moderate flooding.
The Nepean River at Wallacia Weir is expected to exceed the major flood level (11.00 m) around 03:00 pm Sunday. The river level may reach around 15.00 metres Sunday evening, with major flooding.
Hawkesbury and Lower Nepean River:
Moderate flooding is occurring at Penrith. Major flooding is occurring at North Richmond. Moderate to Major flooding is expected along the Hawkesbury River.
The Nepean River at Penrith may reach 8.50 metres Sunday afternoon, with moderate flooding. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.
The Hawkesbury River at North Richmond (WPS) may reach around 15.00 metres late Sunday evening, with major flooding. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.
The Hawkesbury River at Windsor (WPS) may reach around 13.30 metres during Monday with major flooding. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.
The Hawkesbury River at Sackville may exceed the minor flood level (4.60 m) Sunday evening. The river level may reach the major flood level (9.70 m) Monday night into Tuesday. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.
The Hawkesbury River at Lower Portland may exceed the minor flood level (4.60 metres) overnight Sunday into Monday. The river level may reach the moderate flood level (6.10 metres) Monday morning. Further rises are possible, with forecast rainfall.
The Hawkesbury River at Wisemans Ferry may reach around 4.20 metres during Tuesday with major flooding. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.
Colo River:
Moderate flooding may occur along the Colo River.
The Colo River at Putty Road may exceed the minor flood level (2.70 metres) Sunday afternoon. The river level may reach the moderate flood level (5.70 metres) Sunday night. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.

* Avoid drowning. Stay out of rising water, seek refuge in the highest available place.
* Prevent damage to your vehicle. Move it under cover, away from areas likely to flood.
* Avoid being swept away. Stay out of fast-flowing creeks and storm drains.
* Never drive, ride or walk through flood water. Flood water can be deceptive and dangerous.}
