Warning to Sheep Graziers

for Mid North Coast, Hunter, Northern Tablelands, Illawarra, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes, Snowy Mountains and Australian Capital Territory forecast districts

Warning to Sheep Graziers for the following areas:
Mid North Coast, Hunter, Northern Tablelands, Illawarra, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes, Snowy Mountains and Australian Capital Territory forecast districts
Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, rain and showers and southeasterly winds are expected during Tuesday and Wednesday. Areas likely to be affected include the Mid North Coast, Hunter, Southern Tablelands and Australian Capital Territory forecast districts and parts of the Northern Tablelands, Illawarra, Central Tablelands, South West Slopes and Snowy Mountains forecast districts. There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.

South Coast, North West Slopes & Plains and Central West Slopes & Plains forecast districts
The Warning to Sheep Graziers for the South Coast, North West Slopes & Plains and Central West Slopes & Plains forecast districts has been cancelled.

Severe Weather Warning
for Heavy Rainfall

for parts of Mid North Coast and Hunter Forecast Districts.

The threat of localised heavy rainfall to persist across the Hunter and Mid North Coast.

Weather Situation
A trough over the Hunter district is forecast to move slowly northward for the remainder of today. A coastal trough is also forecast to develop across the northeast later this evening then deepen in response to a highly amplified upper trough and associated low on Wednesday.
HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Mid North Coast and Hunter
Localised HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING remains possible over parts of the Hunter district until evening. Very isolated six-hourly rainfall totals between 50 to 80 mm are possible.
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING may also develop across the Mid North Coast later this evening and continue through Wednesday. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 60 to 90 mm are possible, reaching up to 125 mm over coastal areas.
Rainfall will further contribute to flooding already being experienced and maintains the potential for landslides.
DAMAGING WINDS are no longer expected across the warning area. However, strong and gusty winds may still provide the risk of trees toppling in softer and very saturated soils, particularly about the coastal fringe and ranges.

A separate Severe Weather Warning for Damaging Surf is also current along parts of the central coastline.
Locations which may be affected include Port Macquarie, Taree, Cessnock, Maitland, Dungog and Kulnura.
Severe weather is no longer occurring in the Metropolitan district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.

Significant wind observations to 9:00 am Tuesday:
Norah Head recorded a 95km/h gust at 12:33 am
Bellambi recorded 72 km/h sustained with gusts up to 95 km/h at 3:30 pm Monday.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
* Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks.
* After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides.
* Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.

Minor Flood Warning For The Paterson River

RENEWED MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT GOSTWYCK FROM TUESDAY NIGHT
River levels peaked below minor flood levels during Monday morning along the Paterson and Williams Rivers at Dungog, Mill Dam Falls, and Gostwyck.
Further rainfall is forecast to develop during Tuesday, which may cause renewed rises and minor flooding along the Paterson River at Gostwyck from Tuesday night.
This situation is being closely monitored, and revised predictions will be provided as necessary.
A Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall is current for parts of the Hunter and Metropolitan Forecast Districts.

Paterson River:
Renewed minor flooding is possible along the Paterson River at Gostwyck.
The Paterson River at Gostwyck Bridge may reach the minor flood level (9.10 m) Tuesday night.

Hazardous Surf Warning for New South Wales

Weather Situation
Surf and swell conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as rock fishing, boating, and swimming in the following areas.
Hazardous Surf Warning for the following areas:
Macquarie Coast, Hunter Coast, Sydney Coast, Illawarra Coast and Batemans Coast

NSW Police Force, Marine Area Command advise that:
People should consider staying out of the water and avoid walking near surf-exposed areas.
Rock fishers should avoid coastal rock platforms exposed to the ocean and seek a safe location that is sheltered from the surf.
Boaters planning to cross shallow water and ocean bars should consider changing or delaying their voyage.
Boaters already on the water should carry the appropriate safety equipment and wear a lifejacket.
Boaters should remember to log on with their local Marine Rescue radio base, via VHF Radio or the Marine Rescue APP, and consider their safety management plan.

Flood Watch For The Lower Hunter And Central Coast

Flood Watch Number: 6
FLOODING IS OCCURRING IN MANY CATCHMENTS AROUND THE ILLAWARRA, SYDNEY, CENTRAL COAST AND HUNTER REGIONS, INCLUDING MAJOR FLOODING IN THE HAWKESBURY AND NEPEAN RIVERS.
FURTHER FLOODING IS POSSIBLE IN THE CENTRAL COAST AND HUNTER REGIONS DURING MONDAY AND TUESDAY.

The East Coast Low has weakened into a trough over the Hunter district, while a strong high over the Great Australian Bight extends a ridge to the southern Tasman Sea. The combination of these features is bringing wet and windy conditions to many eastern areas of New South Wales, with severe weather about central parts of the coast. Weather conditions will gradually ease during Monday and Tuesday, although the trough will linger on the northern half of the coast through to Tuesday.
This may cause localised flash flooding and renewed and higher flooding along rivers where flood warnings are current as well as bring flooding to additional parts of the Hunter and Central Coast.
A Severe Weather Warning for Heavy Rainfall has been issued for the Metropolitan, Illawarra and parts of Hunter and Central Tablelands Forecast Districts.
The weather system may cause riverine flooding during Monday and Tuesday for the catchments listed. Flood Classes (minor, moderate, major) are only defined for catchments where the Bureau provides a flood warning service.
